innocence

It was our last day in Siargao but I still couldn't resist the water. I was still swimming at the back of the place we were staying. I was taking pictures while swimming while a kid joined me, he went up to me as if he wanted to partake in the pictures I was taking. Hence, I took a snap of him.

sabin hotel resort

Sabin Hotel Resort, Leyte.
We were treated by our colleagues folks to dinner in this resort in Leyte during Holy Week. When we got here, I was just amazed at the place, I fell in love with it because the pool was huge, bigger than the shot that's taken here. The architecture and the design is very cool and relaxing; we arrived there at night which was such a good thing because we could see its beauty with different lights flashing on to add to the effect.

Too bad I wasn't able to dip in the water, because we were busy talking and drinking booze. hehe.

moonlight

Port of Leyte
We were boarding on to our boat to Cebu until we saw the moon so near and full. We had to get back down just to capture its light. Unfortunately, after leaving our things on the boat, the moon was already hiding itself from the clouds. So this is what's left of what we could capture. If only I had a professional camera, I believe I'd be able to get some more details of the moon itself; of course, with good lenses. Still, I'm glad I'm able to capture this.

visiting Bacolod

I'll be leaving for Bacolod today. This will be my first time to go on a trip on my own, I think. Nah, but I'm having jitterbugs just thinking about it. At least in some way, even if I'm still living with my folks, I want to show some growth of independence.

So while I'm away for awhile, I know pictures will be plenty.

Magpupungko was derived from the root word pungko which in English means "sit". Locales and tourists alike would wonder why the bigger rock won't fall when it should.

This was taken in Siargao island where we spent a week's worth of leave.

My Olympus SW790

Some of you may wonder what type of camera I'm using. FYI, I'm currently using an Olympus SW790 point and shoot camera. I'm still paying for this baby as of the moment. I'll be able to fully pay it after 7 months.

But just to set everybody's expectations, the snapshots in this site are taken by different types of cameras; from Kodak to Sony, from Canon to some generic brands. These shots are just being archived in some networking site that I want to reach out to more people for the sake of sharing some pictures I've taken as I also want to learn more about this craft.

My baby: Olympus SW790

Some of you may wonder why I chose this type of camera and why not purchase a professional one. Here are some explanations.

  • I can't afford to buy a professional camera. I can't even pay for my schooling, much more can I buy a DSLR.
  • I'm still a newbie, so I want to learn some basic techniques without compromising myself as I needed something handy.
  • I like something that would stay with me at times that I might get wet. I like to go out on trips *ehem* budgeted trips, so this camera is perfect for my outdoorsy personality. I like to go out to the beach usually, that's why sometimes I get invited mainly because of my camera and not really me. hehe. Kidding. Lastly,

  • because it's what most people recommended, hehe. Really, I needed something waterproof cause aside from being able to capture underwater shots, I wanted peace of mind with regard to suddenly getting my camera wet. At least, I won't have to worry about keeping it dry.

Honestly, I was contemplating whether I should buy the Pentax W30 over this Olympus SW790 because the former is cheaper. Anyway, for a detailed entry of how I was able to choose this model over that Pentax w30.

Please check out the link below.

Olympus SW790 vs Pentax W30 - 2 underwater cameras

I wish to purchase a professional DSLR, however, I need to save up for it first as it's also not my main agenda right now.

enjoying the water

This is a tribute to my friend (in the picture) who was off to Manila due for work. We went island-hopping to Bagongbanua, one of the islands near Bohol, Philippines. Clearly from the look on her face, she's enjoying her vacation.

paddle to the shade

I took this picture of a fisherman (our neighbor during our stay) at the back of our friend's house when we were still in Siargao, Philippines. It started to rain hard and I hurriedly took my camera out to capture the moment.

advice

I listened to a friend's advice about putting my watermark at the center of my snapshots. She told it's to prevent people from copying or getting my works and displaying them for their own sake. I didn't really mind it much before but she did prove a point. It's not that I want the photographs to be all for myself alone; that's why I created this blog, to let other people see some of my works.

My friend also advised me to create a trademark and use it in every photo. Because as you can see, I still haven't decided how I'm going to put it. The different pictures in this site have different labels with different fonts. I'm still searching for that perfect signature to put. As for now, I'm trying to come up with one.

indigo blues

After we watched some surfers in General Luna, Siargao island, we headed off to our cottage to get some shut-eyes. The sun was setting already and I took a picture of the water and the corals with a nice and warm reflection of the sun turning itself over for the moon.

About Edsnaps

I was looking for a word to use so I can incorporate my name in this blog. I initially wanted to put "edshots" for this site, however, it was already taken. Then came the hassle of finding some available ids in blogger. We all know blogspot's a little too congested that it's hard to find a unique username already. "edphotos", "edshoots" were already taken. I settled with "edtakes" for awhile, until a blogger in my neighborhood dropped by and left a comment; saying "the pixs uve snapped are gorgeous!" Then it hit me... snapped. SNAPS. edsnaps. EDSNAPS!

As if a light bulb suddenly lit up somewhere in my brain. Of course, the idea didn't come from me originally. But I would like to thank Fara for this.

so here goes, my blog name: http://edsnaps.blogspot.com

Aside from this site aspiring to be a photo blog, it can also be a collection of endless rants as if I suddenly snapped my wits out because of too much pressure of being pulled around by life and living. So, there you have it, a dual-purposed blogname.

sea gypsies

Badjaos, they are sometimes referred to as the Sea Gypsies as they spend most of the time in the sea diving for coins to the delight of tourists and watchers. On the port of Surigao, we were boarding off from our boat when they were swimming by, waiting for coins that passengers would throw for them to swim and catch.

It's been awhile since I last traveled by boat and seeing these coin divers with improvised floats is such a welcome treat, knowing that they've also grown with the times. It showcased their ingenuity to make their lives easier. They even devised some "fins" for their their feet so they won't have to paddle too hard.

flipflops

Vista Mar Resort, Cebu

I submitted this photo during out annual Company Summer Outing entitled Sunkissed. They were holding a contest for amateur photo enthusiasts about the event. It wasn't really a good day cause despite the season being summer, the weather wasn't that cooperative as it was cloudy the whole day.

I won second place though. I got a lava lamp out of this... which I then sold since I didn't find any use for lava lamps.
